My approach has developed as a gentle alternative to the interventional approach taken by most mainstream physicians. As doctor visits have gotten shorter and medicating children has become not just accepted but the norm, children are now just smaller chronically ill members of our society. Many physicians focus only on the part of the body that is symptomatic. I take a detailed history in order to integrate all the systemic issues to find a common underlying problem. By doing this, I am able to treat the whole child rather than just one particular area.
My work is based strongly in scientific evidence. I continually review medical literature and texts and also collaborate with physicians and scientists on research. However, all scientific discovery begins with the moment of intuition. Without that moment of epiphany, there is no hypothesis to prove. Helping families to develop the ability to listen to that voice, and to trust it, is central to my practice.
What We Do
Pediatric Neurology: Neurological, behavioral and developmental issues including tics, headaches, seizures, autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, OCD, learning disabilities, mitochondrial and metabolic disorders, and developmental delays.
Chronic Pediatric Problems: Consultative care of children with chronic issues including but not limited to chronic ear infections, eczema, asthma, allergies, constipation, reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism and autoimmune disorders. We recommend that you maintain a general pediatrician, as Dr. Shetreat-Klein’s pediatric care is consultative only.
Individualized Pediatric Nutritional Consultation
Preconception care: Individualized programs for couples who are planning to conceive, addressing nutrition, detoxification and mindful pregnancy and delivery.
In general, insurance companies compel physicians to use interventions and discourage physicians from spending time with patients. Our success is based on our ability to spend unhurried time with each family in order to develop highly individualized therapeutic plans that draw from a broad spectrum of integrative modalities. It is impossible to deliver this high quality of care within the insurance system. As such, Dr. Shetreat-Klein does not accept insurance. If you have insurance and have met your deductible, however, it is likely that a large percentage of this fee will be reimbursed to you.
We will help you to prepare receipts with proper coding for your insurance company. As a licensed MD whose fees and services are considered “reasonable, usual, and customary” by most insurance companies, Dr. Shetreat-Klein cannot guarantee or be responsible for any reimbursements.
We ask you to pay for our services in full at the time they are rendered, unless other arrangements have been made in advance. Please contact the office for our current fee schedule.
We accept cash, checks, American Express, Mastercard, and Visa.
A $25.00 fee will be assessed for all returned checks.
